Moonwatch by The Emotion Lab

The moon has been a guide and object of admiration and mysticism during thousands of years. Agriculture, fertility, tidal patterns, human behaviour and many other activities have been linked to the different moon phases.
Moonwatch has been designed to establish a relationship between the moon cycle and a person’s emotional states. It’s a new concept of time based on nature which invites people to reflect upon and gain a closer understanding of their mood and daily life on earth.

Urban Design by Rocker Lange Architects

American firm rocker lange architects recently created ‘urban adapter’ for the hong kong and shenzen bi – city biennale. The proposal was for a contemporary city bench which seeks to understand the concept of street furniture as a holistic design problem.
The project is based on a digital parametric model. At its core the model utilizes explicit site information and programmatic data to react and interact with its environment. That way the model’s DNA structure is capable of producing a variety of unique furniture Results. Together they generate an endless family of new urban bench furniture.
Rather than having a fixed form the members of the family can adapt to different site conditions and programmatic needs.
While all of the designs have the ability to serve as a seating element, some have additional programmatic values added, such as recycling containers, flower buckets or billboards serving for advertisement or educational purposes.
Undressed by Jessica Lichtenstein

A series of erotic figurines by American artist Jessica Lichtenstein is on show at Gallery Nine5 in New York. Called Undressed, the installation displays over 25 semi-nude female characters in a range of scenarios from serving food, to sitting on the toilet, to fighting off miniature soldiers.
While studying art history at Yale University, Lichtenstein became fascinated with representations of femininity and the use of eroticism as a narrative device.
“I love looking at the way women have been depicted from classic times to modern times- from Botticelli’s rotund figures, to Fragonard’s playful yet overly ornate figures, to Ingre’s elongated Odalisque, to Picasso’s abstract sharpest patterns. They all show one theme- women and their sexuality- yet it is expressed in so many different styles.”
Japanese manga and anime are strong influences on Lichtenstein’s work and serve as vital conduits in her exploration of ‘twisted’ childhoods and lost innocence. Each vignette in Lichtenstein’s Installation functions as a slate upon which the viewer can project his or her own aspirations and fantasies.
Product Design in the Sustainable Era

Designing products with future generations in mind
Sustainability is not a passing fashion, and people are constantly searching for more information, products and innovations in this area. Designers, in turn, are responding with elegant, efficient, low-impact products that look towards a sustainable future. This book brings together over 180 such innovative and award-winning projects from over 20 countries, launched by leading design offices and companies worldwide, including IDEO, IBM, and New Deal Design.
Featuring reusable products from water bottles and diapers to solar- and wind-powered goods; clocks that run by reacting with soil; air and water purifiers; coffins and urns for sustainable funerals; paper made from elephant and sheep dung—as well as eco-friendly chocolates, bikinis, guitars, energy efficient appliances and much more—this is a state-of-the-art update on the sustainable revolution in product design.
